On Sunday, 01 February 2026, from 12:00 to 14:00 (Athens time), the Voice of Greece program “Our Town”, hosted by Themis Rodamitis, continues its tribute to the boîtes of Plaka. These were the small, intimate live music clubs that became iconic in Athens in the 1960s and 1970s and became synonymous with the Greek New Wave music movement.
Guests on the program are four artists who lived through and participated in defining moments of the boîtes, each writing their own unique story and leaving a lasting mark on this constructive, creative, and deeply experiential period:
Lakis Chalkias, who had the good fortune to perform some of the finest songs by Giannis Markopoulos in the boîtes;
composer Michalis Terzis, who wrote his first songs in these venues and accompanied major figures of Greek discography;
composer, musician, and performer Mary Dalakou, who experienced the boîtes from the very beginning and, together with Spyros Kampanis, was among those who first launched the boîte “Apanemia”;
and singer and researcher Giorgos Gianniotis.
The guests share special and unforgettable moments from that era, vividly conveying the atmosphere of these small venues — places where some of the most beautiful Greek songs were written and first heard. During the broadcast, listeners will hear significant songs by the guests, as well as wonderful music from the classic boîte era.
