SCHEDULE VOICE OF GREECE

A tribute to Stavros Kougioumtzis | 08 Nov. 2026, 12:00

On Sunday, 8 November 2026, at 12:00 Athens time, Voice of Greece’s “Our Town” presents a two-hour tribute to Stavros Kougioumtzis.

The beloved composer and lyricist left a legacy of some of Greece’s finest songs. They became major hits through the voice of George Dalaras, one of the foremost interpreters of his work, as well as Grigoris Bithikotsis, Dimitris Mitropanos, Haris Alexiou, Vicky Moscholiou, Giannis Kalatzis, Anna Vissi, Antonis Kalogiannis, Aimilia Kougioumtzi, and many others.

The program welcomes Thanasis Yioglou, a researcher of Greek popular song and author of “Stavros Kougioumtzis – Ase me pali na sou po…” (Let Me Tell You Again…). He will discuss both familiar and lesser-known songs by the composer, sharing stories that shed light on their history.

The conversation will explore Kougioumtzis’s intricate melodies, his love of Greek song, his distinctive personality, and his relationships with fellow composers and prominent lyricists. Particular attention will be given to “Angels’ Hymns in Human Rhythms,” a deeply devotional work featuring George Dalaras that left a lasting impression.

The tribute will also explore the composer’s relationship with Thessaloniki. A pioneer of the so-called “Thessaloniki School,” Stavros Kougioumtzis maintained a deep bond with his hometown, where he lived with his family and to which he returned after his years in Athens.

Throughout the program, listeners will hear favorite songs performed by both established and lesser-known singers, alongside recordings that remain unreleased.
