The program “Sound Portraits” with Stavroula Karali sets sail on the seas of Nikos Kavvadias, in a special tribute to the poet who transformed the language of sailors into poetry and song.
Words such as karanti, traverso, vatsimanis, and pataratso come alive through lyrics and melodies, revealing a world both harsh and deeply human—a seafaring world that Kavvadias captured through his journeys and life aboard ships.
These distant voyages are brought to life through the interpretations of remarkable artists such as Thanos Mikroutsikos, Vasilis Papakonstantinou, Mariza Koch, and Dimitris Zervoudakis, among others who have contributed to the enduring legacy of Kavvadias’ work.
