Voice of Greece’s “Sound Portraits,” hosted by Stavroula Karali, launches a new series of radio tributes titled “Poetry Set to Music.”
The series explores the unique meeting point of poetry and music, highlighting works that have left an enduring mark on Greece’s cultural heritage—poems celebrated not only for their literary merit but also for their transformation into timeless songs.
The premiere episode opens with the iconic Kemal, written by Nikos Gatsos and set to music by Manos Hadjidakis, before continuing with musical settings of poems by some of the world’s greatest poets, including Yiannis Ritsos, Federico García Lorca, Nazim Hikmet, Odysseas Elytis, Dionysios Solomos, Nikos Kavvadias, Kostas Karyotakis, Maria Polydouri, and George Seferis.
