On Wednesday, 03 June 2026, at 22:00 Athens time, the Voice of Greece program “Remarkable Personalities”, produced and presented by Stavroula Karali, welcomes Beatrice Saias-Magrizou, author of the book The Fire Bracelet (Kastaniotis Editions), for a deeply moving conversation about memory, loss, and the enduring duty to preserve historical truth.
At the center of the discussion is the true story of the Jewish Saias family and their journey through some of the darkest chapters of the 20th century — from the Great Fire of Thessaloniki in 1917 to Nazi persecution, deportation, and the horrors of the Holocaust.
Drawing on her family’s history, Beatrice Saias-Magrizou shares a deeply personal testimony, recounting the harrowing experiences of her father, Joseph Saias, in Auschwitz. At just 16 years old, he was deported to the Nazi concentration and extermination camp, where he endured unimaginable suffering, including brutal medical procedures performed without anesthesia.
The Saias family chose not to remain silent. They chose to keep alive the memory of those who were lost, so that the Holocaust would never fade into a forgotten page of history. A family bracelet — a precious heirloom passed down from generation to generation — became the symbol of that memory: a silent witness to survival, love, and continuity.
The Fire Bracelet, a powerful true story, was adapted for television by ERT in the acclaimed series of the same name, featuring an outstanding cast and creative team. The series is available on ERTFLIX for viewers in Greece and abroad.
