On Sunday, 24 May 2026, from 12:00 to 14:00 Athens time, the Voice of Greece program “Our Town”, produced and presented by Themis Rodamitis, welcomes bouzouki soloists and composers Aris Koukos and Vangelis Machairas.
The two distinguished musicians will talk about their unique journeys in the world of Greek folk and art song. They will reflect on their hometown of Volos, their memories and early experiences with the Milanos brothers — under whose guidance they studied, combining folk music with Western influences, light music, operetta, and more. They will also discuss their long-standing presence in Greek music, their extensive discography, and their collaborations in concerts with major Greek performers.
Special mention will be made of Giorgos Zampetas, as both artists recorded and performed songs from “Giorgos Zampetas’ Orchard”.
Aris Koukos and Vangelis Machairas will also speak about the value of the bouzouki, the instrument they have devoted themselves to, and its role in conveying meaning through lyrics and poetry, as well as through the music of Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis, and other great composers.
The program will feature many of their own compositions, along with works by other bouzouki virtuosos, as well as fascinating stories from their collaborations on stage, in the recording studio, and in their everyday relationships with fellow musicians.
