On Monday, 19 October 2026, at 22:00 Athens time, Voice of Greece’s “Our Town” welcomes Nikolaos Vlachakis.
Having served in the diplomatic corps abroad for many years, Vlachakis will discuss Bucharest, where he lives, and the Greek Embassy, where he serves. He will talk about the city’s Greek community, its activities and the cultural events in which he is actively involved, as well as efforts to preserve Greek language and education.
Particular attention will be given to translation and publishing, along with the literary presentations, concerts, film screenings and theater performances held in the city.
Vlachakis, who has published five poetry collections and received excellent reviews for both his poetry and his other published writing, will discuss his philosophical influences, European culture, the changes it is undergoing and the threats it faces.
Despite his concerns, he remains optimistic. He will reflect on how his diplomatic work informs his writing and thinking, broadening his intellectual horizons, and remind listeners that many diplomats have also been accomplished poets.
Memory, history, the city and freedom will also feature in the discussion.
