Georgios Chatziioannidis has been honored with a commemorative stamp by Hellenic Post.
The Municipality of Kallithea has also named its indoor sports arena after him: “Olympian Georgios Chatziioannidis Indoor Hall.”
The reason in both cases was the bronze medal he won at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
Appearing on “Athletic Voice” with Grigoris Nanis on Voice of Greece, the global radio service of ERT, he recounted the journey that led him to the third step of the podium in the 62 kg freestyle wrestling event, as well as the broader path of his life and athletic career, joining his own voice with the voice of Greeks everywhere.
