“Our Town”, hosted by Themis Rodamitis, presents XENO Festival, a cultural event centered on the theme of “Non-Human Animals.” Joining the program is Christina-Ino Apostolou, curator of the contemporary art festival in Sigri, Lesvos, and an object designer. She explains how the island’s Petrified Forest—the setting for the festival’s visual arts, music, and other events—creates a singular landscape where the biological has become geological, where life has been inscribed in stone. It is an environment that invites reflection on the boundaries of the non-human animal and the new mythologies that may emerge from our relationship with the natural world.
Speaking in the studio, Apostolou also discusses the unique character of Sigri—a traditional fishing village surrounded by the extraordinary landscape of fossilized trees. This otherworldly setting raises profound existential questions and provides the backdrop for a festival exploring rituals, celebrations, and the many expressions of life and culture.
