Journalist, filmmaker, and author Despoina Sotiropoulou spoke on “Faraway Words” about her documentary And There Was Light, a tribute to Arcadia.
The documentary presents a rich and multifaceted portrait of Arcadia, tracing its story from mythology to modern history. It explores the region’s natural beauty, its role in the Greek War of Independence, its resilient spirit, and its enduring cultural legacy. It also reflects on the villages left deserted by emigration and examines the timeless Arcadian ideal through the lens of history, culture, and local tradition.
As Sotiropoulou explained, the documentary will have its world premiere this August in five villages across Arcadia. The long-term goal is for it to reach international audiences as well, with the support of Arcadian associations abroad.
