On Tuesday, 14 July 2026, Voice of Greece’s “Common Ground” traveled to Christos, the mountain village of Raches on the island of Ikaria, exploring a community whose distinctive way of life continues to inspire both residents and visitors.
Through the stories of four people who have chosen to make the village their home—whether by birth or by choice—the program offers a portrait of a place where tradition, community, and quality of life remain central.
Featured guests include Stelios Kountoupis, Deputy Mayor of Raches; ERT journalist Giorgos Vitsaras, who traces his roots to the area; Theoharis Diamantidis, principal of the local middle and high school, originally from Komotini, who chose to settle permanently in Ikaria; and Thanasis Moulas, who returned to his family’s island from Athens to establish an organic farming enterprise based on traditional local seed varieties that he has spent years collecting and preserving. His work offers a sustainable alternative for both local residents and visitors while helping safeguard the island’s agricultural heritage.
