Tribute to neo-Hellenist Jacques Bouchard on Voice of Greece | 25 Nov. 2024, 19:00

The Greek Library of Montreal honored Jacques Bouchard, Professor at the University of Montreal, last Friday for his significant contributions to Greek culture and language.

Jacques Bouchard has made a remarkable impact through his collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies Canada (CHS) and the academic journal Études helléniques/Hellenic Studies. He has also worked with the Montreal Greek Writers’ Circle, translating their poetry into French, which has been included in anthologies.

His contributions to the Cyprus cause have been substantial, with Bouchard visiting the island repeatedly to support its efforts.

The show Our Town on Voice of Greece was dedicated to this distinguished Hellenist in September 2023. On Monday, November 25, at 7:00 PM Athens time, the feature will be rebroadcast to celebrate this significant recognition.

In this program, Jacques Bouchard discusses his many translations and writings, which have served as “beacons” for researchers. He also explores topics such as early Enlightenment and Greek surrealist poets (Empeirikos, Sachtouris, and others) whom he has translated masterfully.

Bouchard reflects on great philosophers and his mentors, such as Dimaras and Savvidis, while also highlighting the Greek community in Montreal. The tribute includes contributions from Leonidas Empeirikos, Catherine Velissaris, and Maria Roussou, professor at the University of Cyprus.
