“Saturday Watch, the special, two-hour ‘weekend edition’ of the show “Fair Winds and Following Seas” with Antonis Karagiannakis, honors International Women’s Day with a two-hour broadcast dedicated to the role and contributions of women in shipping.

The show’s guests will be:

  • Marina Papaioannou, Regional Director of the DNV Academies for Southeast Europe,
  • Maria Boile, Professor at the University of Piraeus, Department of Maritime Studies – Director of the Master’s Program in Shipping and Coordinator of the European Technology Platform for Maritime Transport,
  • Eirini Notia, Founder of Project Connect and the Adopt a Ship program, and
  • Aphrodite Korexanou, Third Engineer in the Merchant Navy – Coastal Shipping.

Each guest will discuss their field and role in the shipping industry, as well as any challenges they faced at the beginning of their careers in what was traditionally a male-dominated sector. They will share the initiatives they have undertaken, inspired by the industry, and their vision for the future of women in a field full of ever-emerging opportunities.
Is it easy or challenging for a woman to build a career in shipping? What happens if she wants to start a family?

Produced and presented by: Antonis Karagiannakis
Broadcast: Saturday, March 8, 2025, 08:00 Athens time
– with a repeat at 20:00 in the evening.
