On Saturday, 02 May 2026, at 12:00 (Athens time), the Voice of Greece program “Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis presents a tribute to Kyriakos Sfetsas, one of the most important contemporary Greek composers, highlighting key moments from his life and work—some of which will be heard for the first time.
His body of work spans a wide range of musical forms, including symphonic, choral, and stage music (ballet and theatre), chamber music, electronic compositions, works for solo instruments, jazz and fusion pieces, songs set to poetry by Greek and international poets, as well as film scores.
These and many other aspects of his work are explored in the studio by composer and PhD candidate in the Department of Music Studies Tilemachos Moussas, and composer and bassist Giorgos Palamiotis, both of whom collaborated closely with Sfetsas, often opening new paths in Greek music.
In the second part of the tribute, to be broadcast on Monday, 04 May 2026, from 22:00 to 23:00 (Athens time), further insight will be offered into the composer’s life, his innovative ideas, his collaborations, his support for younger generations, and his deep, lifelong relationship with music. Joining the discussion in the studio will be Tilemachos Moussas, Giorgos Palamiotis, and Nikos Giousef of Ypogeia Revmata, who remained close to the composer until the end and wrote: “Kyriakos Sfetsas is no longer with us. He has departed for worlds unknown, to meet Gkogou, Christou, Chatzinikos, Halaris, Terezakis, and so many other friends who had passed before him.”
The program bids farewell to one of Greece’s most significant composers, whose work shaped an open and exploratory musical landscape, leaving behind a vital legacy for researchers and for younger generations—especially those who love music.
