We all carry an image of our origins, shaped by our family, our education, the national narrative, and the collective memories we bear. For Greeks, the idea of historical continuity and of “Greek origin” carries particular weight. But what does this continuity really mean? And what relationship might it have with DNA?
This Saturday, 10 January 2026, the program “Historical Walks” with Marilena Katsimi hosts biologist and author Kostas Kampourakis. On the occasion of his new book “Ancestry Reimagined: Dismantling the Myth of Genetic Ethnicities” (Crete University Press), he explains what genetics—and DNA tests in particular—can and cannot reveal about our origins and our identity, dismantling myths, misinterpretations, and oversimplifications that often circulate in public discourse.
