On Saturday, 31 January 2026, on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed each year on 27 January, the Voice of Greece program “Historical Walks” with Marilena Katsimi welcomes Chryssa Tzelepi and Akis Kersanidis, creators of the award-winning documentary Return to Homeland.
The film is based on the book by German psychiatrist Titus Milech, The Crime Scene: Germany, the Uncanny Homeland.
The camera follows the author on a return journey to Germany—a country he left for good in 1977, unable to continue living in the place where what he describes as the “ultimate crime” was committed. Titus Milech later became a naturalized French citizen and devoted his life and work to exploring what he himself calls “German madness.”
Through his personal experiences and his family’s history, he reflects on the collective responsibility of those who “did not know,” as well as on intergenerational trauma—affecting both victims and perpetrators.
A powerful road movie of places and emotions in contemporary Germany, the documentary unfolds against the backdrop of the government’s decision for the country to once again become Europe’s leading military power, at a time when nearly 20% of German voters declare their support for the far-right party AfD.
