“Historical Walks” for the International Day of Older Persons: A conversation with Dr. Sofia Skalidi | 27 Sept. 2025, 13:00

On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons – celebrated every year on October 1st following a 1990 resolution of the UN General Assembly – this Saturday’s “Historical Walks” turns its gaze to aging and the many ways it shapes our lives.

We will reflect on both the difficulties and the joys of what is often called the “third age,” and consider how we can truly stand beside our loved ones. Can old age become a time for tenderness, reconciliation, and even a simple “thank you” to those who raised us – with all their flaws and frailties?

Our guest, Dr. Sofia Skalidi, internist–geriatrician, will share her experience in the care of older people and guide us toward seeing this stage of life with deeper empathy and understanding.

The program will be accompanied by songs filled with memory – songs that speak of the cycle of life, of time passing, and of the value of the present moment.

Produced and presented by Marilena Katsimi
Broadcast: Saturday 27 September 2025, 13:00-14:00 (Athens time)
