A conversation with Petros Markaris | 08 Nov. 2025, 12:00

On Saturday, 08 November 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00 Athens time, the Voice of Greece program “Our Town” welcomes the award-winning and widely read crime novelist Petros Markaris.

The distinguished guest will speak about his works, his long literary journey, the virtues promoted by the genre today, and of course about the central figure in his novels, Inspector Costas Haritos – a traditional Greek civil servant shaped by discipline, family devotion, and inner honesty, much like Inspector Salvo Montalbano, the protagonist created by Markaris’s friend and fellow crime writer Andrea Camilleri

Petros Markaris will also share his concerns about the misuse of new technologies, which, as he notes, undermine the enduring values established through the centuries and foster a superficial and dangerous perception of life; one that directly affects language, writing, translation, and even forgery.

Beloved not only in the field of detective fiction but in literature at large, Markaris will also speak about his birthplace, Halki, and about the city he loves, Athens, particularly the Kypseli neighborhood where he resides.

The program will also explore the author’s international acclaim, highlighting countries where his work enjoys particular popularity – among them Italy, where a major television series based on his novels is currently in development.

Produced and presented by Themis Rodamitis
