Overtourism and the fragile soul of the city: Giorgos Rakkas on “Our Town” | 03 Nov. 2025, 22:00

On Monday, 03 November 2025, from 22:00 to 23:00 (Athens time), “Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis welcomes Giorgos Rakkas, researcher at the Institute of Information Technologies and Technological Development and author of the book “Overtourism, Carefree Capitalism, and the City’s Social Crisis.

The discussion will focus on the growing issue of overtourism — a phenomenon now affecting many cities worldwide and raising profound concerns about modern urban life.
Throughout the program, valuable insights will be shared, alongside essential questions:
Is the tourist city truly a “living city,” or does it merely pretend to be, concealing a deep existential crisis?

The conversation will explore the far-reaching consequences and resilience of overtourism — its macroeconomic effects, environmental footprint, and impact on human relationships, as well as the erosion of social cohesion and the challenge of preserving traditions and values.

Produced and presented by Themis Rodamitis
Broadcast: Monday, 03 November 2025, 22:00–23:00 (Athens time) — repeat at 05:00–06:00.
