On Sunday, 14 December 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00 (Athens time), the Voice of Greece program “Folk Paths”, hosted by Elena Falirea, welcomes Giannis Zarias, musician and Assistant Professor of Violin at the University of Macedonia, to the studio.
The conversation is prompted by the upcoming music-and-dance performance “Living Tradition in New Sound and Movement”, presented by the Violione Orchestra in collaboration with the dance group Koryvantes, scheduled for Saturday, 20 December, at the City of Athens cultural venue “Anna and Maria Kalouta.”
Founded in 2018, the Violione Orchestra consists of violin specialization students from the University of Macedonia and is conducted by Giannis Zarias. Its primary aim is to present repertoire drawn mainly from Greek music, the Balkans, and the wider Eastern Mediterranean, alongside contemporary works, all approached through a creative and imaginative orchestral perspective. The ensemble has released two albums to date, with a third recording currently in preparation, featuring new original compositions.
