25 March is not only a day of national remembrance, dedicated to the heroic struggle of the Greeks to cast off Ottoman rule and to the birth of the independent Greek state. It is also a timeless tribute to the fighters of freedom, as well as an opportunity to bring into focus a less widely highlighted—yet decisive—force of the Greek Revolution: the dynamic and forward-looking Greek communities of the diaspora, which, through their spirit, their passion for freedom, and their vision for a better future, offered vital support to the struggle.
This Friday, 20 March 2026, at 13:00 (Athens time), the program “On the Road” with Ariadni-Sofia Kouri takes listeners of Voice of Greece on a journey to the Danubian Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, to Constantinople and the Phanar, as well as to Trieste of the Habsburg Empire, in an episode dedicated to the contribution of Greeks abroad to the preparation of the Greek War of Independence.
