“Vasilis Maggos: 26 Years and 65 Days” | 11 Apr. 2025, 11:00

The radio series “Unguarded Passage” presents a radio documentary about a child who unjustly lost his life — a child who, as his teacher says in the audio document that opens the program, “Vasileios Maggos was a child who lived among us for 26 years and 65 days.” A remarkable child, sensitive and cultivated, an active citizen who took part in all social struggles.

In June 2020, Vasileios Maggos reported being beaten by police forces, as well as the abuse he suffered afterward inside the police car and at the police station where he was taken.

The main narrator of the radio documentary is Vasileios’ father, Giannis Maggos, who, through a titanic struggle, managed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The documentary, produced by ERT journalists Froso Pavlou, from ERT Volos, and Thomas Sideris, from Voice of Greece, includes rare audio materials: poems written by Vasileios Maggos, poems and songs composed by his friends in his memory, chants shouted by students in Volos for him, and the songs he loved by Trypes and Xylina Spathia.

It is worth noting that ERT journalists Froso Pavlou and Thomas Sideris began investigating the case four years ago, while it was still in its early stages.

Research & Presentation: Thomas Sideris – Froso Pavlou
Broadcast: Friday, April 11, at 13:00 Athens time.

The radio series “Afilachti Diavasi” honors International Women’s Day with a special episode dedicated to an exceptional woman, Maria Roussou, director of the Public Library of Lefkada. Tireless, methodical, and above all, with an inexhaustible love for the library, she managed to turn a public institution into a landmark for the island of Aristotle Valaoritis and Angelos Sikelianos—an island where poetry has always met music and Italian culture is deeply woven into daily life.
