On July 7, setting out from Volos, an international and intergenerational crew of sailors, scientists, and artists sailed around the Aegean and Ionian Seas – from the Sporades to the Cyclades and from Corfu to Zakynthos – making stops at selected ports, marinas, and anchorages, to promote the protection of the endangered Mediterranean monk seal. Captain of Pelago, Loukas Gkourtsogiannis, speaks about SEALS GREECE, a national initiative for the protection of the Mediterranean monk seal, developed by the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization (N.E.C.C.A) and the Monk Seal Alliance, aiming to raise environmental awareness and connect the islands with sustainable development.
