Super El Niño: When the Pacific changes the world | 30 Aug. 2026, 11:00

What if one of the biggest climate stories on Earth is unfolding where we cannot see it — beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean?

This Sunday, 30 August 2026 at 11:00 (Athens time), “Infinitely Curious” goes below the surface with Dr Zachary Labe, climate scientist at Climate Central in Princeton, New Jersey, to explore the powerful El Niño developing in the tropical Pacific.

What does “Super El Niño” really mean? What is happening to the extraordinary reservoir of heat beneath the ocean? How does El Niño interact with human-caused climate change — and what could this changing Pacific mean for global temperatures, Europe and the Mediterranean?

And as climate records keep falling, how do we distinguish between natural variability and a planet whose background climate has fundamentally changed?

Because on a connected planet, a distant ocean is never entirely distant.
