At the very moment when the business world and the media are cultivating a new storytelling around the humble cucumber-and-tomato salad – where cucumber becomes a sun in slices, tomato a ruby of the garden melting into olive oil, and feta a small manifesto of Mediterranean life – public opinion, on the other hand, is outraged by the phenomenon of the “golden tomato” and prices that seem to squeeze not only the wallet but also common sense.
