The veteran captain recounts in his unique style the harrowing experience faced by him and the crew of the M/V “Argo Hellas,” owned by shipping magnate Giannis Karras, when they encountered the fierce typhoon named “Agni” while sailing from the Philippines to Los Angeles.
He notably describes it as “the worst night of our lives, something that Captain George Mylonas from Kardamyla, Chios, and his experienced crew—mostly seasoned sailors from Chios—endured. Fifteen-meter waves, like a five-story building, tormented us, and truly, all of us placed our hopes and existence in God, Saint Nicholas, and our Holy Virgin.”
