Captain Giorgos Georgoulis from Chios, who is also a professor at the University of the Aegean in the Department of Maritime Studies, is the guest on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” and VOICE OF GREECE.
He talks about his favorite island Chios, the maritime tradition that continues by the new generations.
He also talks about educating young people and of course about his own life on the steamships. His first barge was in 1983 with the bulk carrier “Donna Sophia” of the Chandris company. One veteran seafarer, who spent almost his entire career working and traveling with a Lebanese company, shared delightful anecdotes about the sea, ships, and his own incredible experiences.
In celebration of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, the president of the Maritime Museum of Greece, Mrs. Anastasia Anagnostopoulou Paloumpi, discussed an exhibition organized at the museum titled “From Athens 1896… to Paris 2024. Olympic Commemorative Coins & Medals.”
This exhibition, under the auspices of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, showcases 10 commemorative medals and 720 coins issued by countries hosting the Winter and Summer Olympic Games from 1896 to the present day, all from the private collection of Admiral Giorgos Bablenis.
