George Vlachos, Educational Coordinator of the Consulate General of Greece in Johannesburg, on ”Greece in the World” | 27.11.2023

On the occasion of the 12th International Greek Conference organized by the Hellenic Cultural Organization Nostos, at the National University of Buenos Aires, speaking today on the “Voice of Greece” and the show “Greece in the World” with Giorgos Dionysopoulos is Mr. George Vlachos, Educational Coordinator, Consulate General of Greece in Johannesburg, who will be one of the speakers at the Round Table scheduled to take place in the course of the Conference, on: “The Teaching of the Greek Language to the Diaspora: Reflections and Didactic Suggestions”.

The Conference, which starts on Monday, November 27 and is scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, November 29, is under the auspices of the Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy and is scheduled to begin with the speech of the Secretary General for Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy, Mr. Giannis Chrysoulakis, who, as Mr. Vlachos mentions, is close to expatriate Greeks all around the world.

In addition, Mr. Vlachos congratulates all the distinguished speakers and especially, for her cultural contribution, the founder and president of Nostos, Ms. Christina Tsardikou.

He stresses that this is a highly significant conference, known to those involved in Greek language and culture. A conference dealing with topics related to the theater, to history, to philosophy, to Olympism, as well as issues related to the teaching of the Greek language.

The topics to be discussed are:

The different names of the Greeks from antiquity to Independence,

Hellenism and Olympism, the flame will remain lit forever,

The tragic trilogy of Aeschylus, the divine pedagogy of Justice and fear,

As if I had died… the poetic work of Irene Papas,

Orestiada and its influence on Argentine literature,

Celebrations and immigrant identity. The Greek community of Buenos Aires,

Small gods and goddesses. Archetypes in the Upbringing of Values,

Greek theatre in Argentina,

Romiosini by Yiannis Ritsos,

Maria Callas, 100 Years Later,

Kazantzakis and Plato and other topics.

It is noted that the conference is dedicated to the memory of Souli Zarpa and Eloi Demertzi who were honorary members of the Greek Cultural Organization “Nostos” in Argentina and tireless collaborators.
