The main conclusion that we will be drawing from today’s GME is just how multi-faceted and versatile Vassilis Dimitriou was as a composer. You see, he always felt that music is unified. When he went to the conservatory in the early 1960s to study music, genres like traditional, modern, popular folk music, and light singing were not only unknown, but also forbidden. He recalls: “I finished the conservatory and I didn’t know how to play zeibekiko or blues. I consider this narrow-mindedness unacceptable, and today these mental obstacles have fortunately been overcome. I got involved with all genres from the very beginning”.
