Greek Music Express – Five Greek Summers: Rebetiko & Folk summertime  | 06 June 2024

Summer is a time of vacations, relaxation and escape from everyday life. Naturally, for precisely these reasons, it has passed in the heart of the Greek song – in many ballads or light songs that exude coolness and nostalgia, containing references to this particular season. Summer can also be found in traditional songs, especially in island songs filled with summer breeze, sea and shores. But today, we shall be focusing on summer-themed songs from two other genres, rebetiko and laiko, i.e. urban folk, where we least expect to find them.
