Kaiti Grey, who passed away yesterday at the age of 100, was one of the greatest Greek singers – a real myth of the folk song of the 1950s and 1960s. Born on the island of Samos, she was adopted by a family in Piraeus and moved there. Initially, she worked as an actress and a performer, before recording her first song in 1952. Almost immediately, Kaiti Grey became the ‘first name’ of the folk music scene, appearing in the biggest live music stages and collaborating with the greatest composers, such as Tsitsanis, Papaioannou, Mitsakis and Zambetas. She also appeared live in music halls of the diaspora in the US, Australia, Canada and Germany.
