Greek Music Express – Five moments of ‘laiko’ song: Songs from Stavros Tsiolis’ film “Let the women wait” | 10.05.2024

Today’s menu includes some of the most commercially successful vocalists of light folk: Antypas, Vassilis Karras, Notis Sfakianakis, Zafeiris Mellas, Antonis Remos, Aggeliki Iliadi, Litsa Giagkousi, next to global music ambassadors like Glykeria and rebetiko legends like Dimitris Kontogiannis. Their meeting point is the soundtrack of the 1998 film ‘As perimenoun oi gynaikes’ (Let the women wait), written and directed by Stavros Tsiolis. The three protagonists of the film, Giannis Zouganelis, Argyris Bakirtzis and Sakis Boulas, have left a very important footprint on Greek music – Bakirtzis as the leader of Heimerinoi Kolimvites band-, Boulas as a notable art and rock singer, and Zouganelis as a prolific composer and songwriter.
