This week here at GME focuses on a genre of Greek song that has unjustifiably been left out of our broadcasts up to now: light or ‘elafro’ song. It is a current that flourished from the 1930s onwards and influenced, with its sensitivity and melodic quality, a variety of other styles. Today, we will be celebrating the pioneering role of Attik. Kleon Triantafyllou, known as Attik, was born on 19 March 1885 and died on 29 August 1944. He was a significant composer of the early 20th century and one of the great forefathers of Greek ‘easy listening’.
