Gerasimos Miliaresis was born in Braila, Romania in 1918 to Kefalonian parents. In 1947 he received diplomas in guitar and harmony from the Hellenic Conservatory, both with honors. In 1950, with a scholarship from the Italian government, he attended advanced courses with professor Andres Segovia in Siena. Later, at the personal invitation of Segovia and with a scholarship from the Spanish government, he attended his academic courses in Spain. Miliaresis is the first Greek guitarist who did serious studies abroad at the school of Segovia and who introduced this massive legacy as a scholar in Greece.
