Greek Music Express: Painters on Greek album covers: Theofilos | 05 April 2024

The backbone of today’s tribute to painter Theofilos is a 1976 collection of songs titled Paintings of Theofilos, written by Akos Daskalopoulos and composed by Notis Mavroudis. The songs are performed by Alexandra and Haris Galanos. Next to them, we will be listening to songs with references to Theofilos performed by Petros Karalis, Eleni Dimou, Antonis Kalogiannis, Sotiria Bellou and the Katsimiha brothers. In the words of Giannis Tsarouchis, “Theofilos belongs to the opposite camp of that where professors, academics, conservatives and revolutionaries by profession belong. He is one of those crazy Greeks who rose up naturally, against the teachings of the wise men and those who wanted to just settle down”.
