This year, Greece is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the fall of the 7-year military dictatorship in 1974 and the establishment of a functioning democratic regime. This is a great occasion for GME to return to some of the greatest songs that marked the mid-1970s and, also, to some texts that analyse the sociological significance of this development. Today, our focus will be on songs released following this important political transition by composers who, inspired by Mikis Theodorakis, sought to express the masses and their desire for protest, democracy and social progress. Specifically, we will be listening to songs by Giannis Markopoulos, Vassilis Dimitriou, Dimos Moutsis, Stavros Kougioumtzis, Mimis Plessas and Giannis Spanos all released in the mid-1970s.
