Our last batch of songs with references to the Aegean islands and their beauty includes grand voices such as Aleka Kanellidou, Kaiti Homata and Popi Asteriadi, rock and roll legends such as Pashalis and a younger generation of artists such as Katerina Kyrmizi and Vasiliki Karakosta. Leonidas Maridakis sings the following in his ‘Astypalaia’: “I lie down with the window open, a crimson moon before me, your words a lost amulet, double bed empty pillow. From here you can only see the east and you are looking somewhere to find the west, true, the kiss hurts again but I fought it and gave the solution. You who look like the Cyclades but you are a Dodecanese island”.
