On Saturday, December 23rd, the Emeritus Professor of Folklore at the Department of Philology of the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens and President of the Folklore Society, Mr. Minas Alexiadis, took us on a journey to the wonderful world of Christmas customs and traditions for New Year and Epiphany, on the show ”Fair Winds and Following Seas: “Saturday shift”, with Antonis Karagiannakis.
In his own graphic and simple way, Mr Alexiadis described various customs of Greece: He talked to us about the tree wood, the Christmas tree, the “podariko” (the first person to set foot in the house after the entry of the new year), the delicacies of the season, the Vasilopita, the Cross dive, the festive cards and much more. All this in a Christmas mood and spirit interspersed with carols from various parts of our Greece!
