A tribute to the defiant doctor Vasilis Tsironis, who hijacked a plane 45 years ago today to bring global attention to what was happening in Greece under the military junta of the colonels. As a doctor for the exiles on Ai Stratis, an unyielding mind, he went on a hunger strike demanding the return of political refugees to Greece. He founded his own political party twice, with the slogan “White,” was imprisoned, and even declared his apartment an independent state (!) where he was found dead after a raid by special forces on July 11, 1978.
