A sensational uprising, one of the least well known ones in history…
Saturday June 4, 1932, Mouzaki, Karditsa. The villagers cannot secure the bread of the year, in the face of the economic crisis that has come to us from the USA initially and then Europe. So they rise up with the slogan “Bread or death”… Farmers from various villages descend on a spontaneous demonstration demanding corn. The newspaper “Tharros” writes: “Thousands of starving mountain municipalities of Agrafo, Aperantia, Ithomi and Gomfoi came there to get maize and those who didn’t have it assembled a spontaneous meeting, a march took place …thousands lying on the ground, starving, awaiting the shipment of corn…”
Researcher Giorgos Goussias recounts the details of this shocking human mass that gathered to claim bread and food, on the show “Time in Greece” with Nikolas Angelidis.
