To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we speak with Andreas Karakatsanis, Professor of Breast Surgery at Uppsala University, Director of the Breast Clinic at Uppsala University Hospital, and Visiting Professor at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School, about advances in breast cancer treatment.
We discuss the importance of early diagnosis, modern surgical techniques, and the possibilities of personalized treatment, as well as women’s role in making decisions about their own health.
Karakatsanis highlights the changes that have transformed breast surgery and the opportunities opened up by scientific advances, with the aim of treating the disease effectively and providing care tailored to each woman’s needs.
In the final part of the conversation, we turn to his academic and professional career in Sweden, the experiences that have shaped his path, and opportunities for Greek scientists abroad to collaborate with universities and the research community in Greece.
