Visual artist Tasos Matzavinos, who hails from Kefalonia, speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on the radio of Voice of Greece.
“For our Greece, the sea is wealth—with its sponges, fish, caiques, sailors, and ships—giving life to countless people. The sea influenced me deeply and continues to influence me, as the death of my father, a captain, in a tragic accident in Alexandria, Egypt, marked my life from the age of two. I was in Faliro at the time, in a gloomy and sorrowful environment, watching the stormy sea and the winds blowing. In my exhibition entitled ‘Pará thin’ alós’, at Skoufa Gallery, I bring to the canvas the emotions of a lifetime over the loss of my father—and much more,” says Matzavinos, among other things.
