Capt. Kostas Geomelos, Navigation Manager at Chandris Hellas, takes the helm of Voice of Greece’s “Fair Winds and Following Seas.” Originally from Chios, an island with a rich maritime tradition, he first went to sea in 1991 aboard the tanker M/V MARI TZINI.
Speaking from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, during a visit to inspect one of his company’s ships, Capt. Kostas explains that living conditions and safety standards for seafarers have improved.
“We need to attract as many young people as possible to shipping. There is a place for everyone, and everyone has something to contribute. Our shipyards have also improved significantly recently, and there is room for further growth,” he says.
