Captain Antonis Pitsilos on “Fair Winds and Following Seas”| 05 Feb. 2026

Captain Antonis Pitsilos from Vrontados, Chios, President of the Chios Marine Club, speaks about his lifelong bond and deep love for the sea and shipping, stressing:
“If I were born again, I would still choose to be a seafarer. I love the sea and shipping very much. Young people who are now entering this profession should know that it is demanding, but it has so much to offer and promises a bright future—provided they truly love it. I first went to sea in 1981 aboard the M/V Mount Parnass, loaded with steel from Philadelphia, USA, bound for Japan, and I signed off after 18 months in England. You never forget your first voyage, or life aboard ships in general.”

As for the Chios Marine Club, which has proudly completed 25 years of active presence and serves shipping with dedication and passion, Captain Pitsilos notes: “From the very first day of its founding, the Club has been a meeting point for people of shipping—a space for dialogue, cooperation, solidarity, and contribution—united by a shared love for the sea and respect for the history of Chios.”
