Captain Giannis Bourboutzoglou, from Paros and Athens, although his family had no connection with the sea or shipping, was from a young age influenced by the older men, the ships, and the sailors in Platana, Evia, a seaside village near Kymi with a strong maritime tradition.
He graduated in 1980 from the Merchant Marine Academy of Oinousses and shortly afterwards embarked for the first time from Piraeus to Alexandria and then to Beirut on the M/V HELLENIC VALOR.
“It takes sweat, effort, work, respect, experience, knowledge, love, and much more to become a captain – but the same applies to any profession you choose. I chose this one, and I never regretted it,” says Captain Giannis Bourboutzoglou.
