Captain Michalis Fragkias from seafaring Chios, with more than 20 years as DPA in Stavros Livanos’ company, speaks once again on “Fair Winds and Following Seas”
He describes how, after a long career in senior positions, he no longer feels anxiety or stress when his phone rings. Still, he misses the action, the voyages, and the ports. From his positions of responsibility, he served with consistency and dedication, completing 166 voyages on various ships of the company.
The training of young seafarers, he notes, is of great importance today, with new chapters constantly being added as many emerging issues concern the shipping community.
Decarbonization, sustainable development, artificial intelligence, climate change, new technologies, and cybersecurity are among the major challenges in commercial shipping. At the same time, as he stresses, “the modern bridge officer must also be a good seaman.”
