I found myself at sea because there was no other professional path at the time. I must underline, though, that I liked the sea and loved it. So in 1966, from Akti Miaouli in Piraeus, I found myself in Suez and aboard the M/V KALIMAN of Antonis Kouloukountis. It was a cargo ship with tarpaulin-covered holds, bound for Constanța in Romania. I spent 25 consecutive months on that ship, and it was there that I obtained my third officer’s license. I chased my dream and I made it! From a young deckhand when I first signed on, I climbed the ranks and became a captain. I sailed until 2010,” Captain Nikolas Politis tells us in his own distinctive way.
