Captain Nikolas Politis from Mesochori, Karpathos, speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
“I found myself at sea because there was no other professional path at the time. I must underline, though, that I liked the sea and loved it. So in 1966, from Akti Miaouli in Piraeus, I found myself in Suez and aboard the M/V KALIMAN of Antonis Kouloukountis. It was a cargo ship with tarpaulin-covered holds, bound for Constanța in Romania. I spent 25 consecutive months on that ship, and it was there that I obtained my third officer’s license. I chased my dream and I made it! From a young deckhand when I first signed on, I climbed the ranks and became a captain. I sailed until 2010,” Captain Nikolas Politis tells us in his own distinctive way.
