On 11 June, “The Elves of Tradition” with Maria Koutsimpiri welcomed the polyphonic ensemble Chaonia, ahead of the 25th Grand Celebration of Polyphonic Song, taking place on Friday, 13 June at 9:00 p.m. at Petra Theater.
Joining us in the Voice of Greece studio were Alexandros Lambridis, Aliki Gkana, Ourania Batsinila, Christos Diplas, Eleftheria Panousi, Giorgos Toutsis, Semeli Mitropoulou, and Fani Tsitoura.
Listeners were treated to live renditions of Epirotic polyphonic songs, alongside pieces unearthed through the group’s long-standing research and rich discography.
In conversation with Alexandros Lambridis, we delved into the living tradition of polyphonic song, the Polyphonic Caravan, and the year’s most significant gathering of polyphonic voices—an event held with the support of the Panepirotic Confederation, the foremost institution of the Epirotic diaspora, and the Municipality of Petroupoli.
