Charalambos Karvounas from Kasos on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” (Part II) | 30 Apr. 2026

Wireless operator, radio electronics specialist and sub-lieutenant Charalambos Karvounas speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.

He reflects on his long journey at sea and his transition from radio officer to radio electronics specialist: “It was a necessary specialty for that transitional period, as there was a great deal of new and advanced equipment, along with the introduction of computers on ships. Someone had to maintain them, repair them and train the officers to use them,” he notes.

Over the course of his extensive maritime career, he also worked aboard the iconic yacht “ATLANTIS,” owned by Stavros Niarchos, measuring 115 meters in length.

The final stage of his career was spent at the shipping company Thenamaris, from which he has recently retired. Along the way, he served on every type of merchant vessel, contributed to maritime education at KESEN Aspropyrgos, and co-authored, with two educators, a book on electronic systems in shipping.
