Chief Engineer Michalis Triantafyllou on “Saturday Shift” | 23 Aug. 2025

On Saturday, 23 August 2025, the Voice of Greece program “Fair Winds and Following Seas – Saturday Shift” with Antonis Karagiannakis hosted Chief Engineer Michalis Triantafyllou.

After a long career at sea and on ships, Captain Michalis has now devoted himself to writing short stories and books, drawing on his experiences, knowledge, and emotions through the power of words and storytelling.

The guest recounted and read passages from his latest book, “Of Salt and Steel – Nautical Tales” (Nea Diastasi Publications).

It is my honor and joy to be on this program for seafarers and shipping, to share some of my journey at sea and on ships. A journey full of experiences, hardships, but also joys that left a lasting mark on me,” said Mr. Triantafyllou.

He added: “I was born in Ioannina, to parents from Lesvos. My father graduated from ‘Prometheus’ but worked at the Public Power Corporation (DEI), and wanted me to go to sea, while my mother wished I would become a doctor. In the end, my father’s wish prevailed. The first spark was lit in Santorini, where we lived for a few years. I was won over by the engine, the sea, the journeys, the ports, and the ships.”
